Ankit Kala & Nakul Jain,Co-FoundersA recent research by an electronic company reveals that 58 percent of people surveyed spend a minimum of three hours per week doing their laundry while unreliability of the local dhobi and unavailability of one-stop-solution for complete laundry needs add to their laundry woes. Bangalore-based, The Laundry Basket caters to its customers’ laundry requirements through hygiene & efficiency, thus providing you enough time to spend the laundry time productively. Established in 2015, this young player is one of the largest Laundromats in the silicon valley of India with six established outlets and six in the pipeline (to be launched by July). Its ‘one machine-one user’ policy doesn’t permit the mixing of customer’s garments with someone else’s and a 24-hour delivery at the client’s doorstep is popular among its expansive consumer base. The company’s customized backend software is highly adept at accepting Omni orders and its Android and iOS supporting apps make it easy for the consumers to key in the requirements and place an order
efficiently.

An Optimized Procedure

Through its three modes of order taking, The Laundry Basket users can schedule a pickup on the website or through phone booking service, drop into any retail outlets located across the city or engage in a DIY mode where they can try the machines and check the amenities provided for themselves.

The employees are connected through an in-house app that tracks the orders, and in case of any discrepancy, notifies the authorities so that immediate and appropriate measures can be taken

The washing is done under the supervision of its trained washing executives who uses smart machines (by a Spanish brand Girbau)that asses the laundry weight and calculate the required amount of water and detergent to be used, and the number of rotations required.

Thorough security measures are undertaken to keep a check on the laundry. The employees are connected through an in-house app that tracks the orders, and in case of any discrepancy, notifies the authorities so that immediate and
appropriate measures can be taken.

Once that is done, the garments can either go for ironing (depending upon the customer’s requirement)or can make its way to the packaging department and then delivered to the customer. “We provide shoe cleaning and only ironing as value added services that segregates us from our competitors. Along with our partners Urban Clap and Dunzo for lead generation, we are banking on these two services to open the business for more orders,” states Ankit Kala, Co-Founder, The Laundry Basket.

Unlike the food delivery service, the logistics involved in laundry delivery are highly fluctuating. The Laundry Basket has tied up with several logistic providers like Shadow Fax and Grab which helps facilitate a smooth operation and adhere to its 24 hour delivery promise. Ankit adds, “It’s a purely service sector industry and better the service we provide, the more loyalty we would receive from the customer”. The company’s currently focusing on the franchisee model by providing the rights & access to the software and support for marketing & lead generation at a royalty of 7 percent. This will help both parties leverage the Indian laundry market of Rs.5,200 crore (as per a KPMG study) and gain an extensive & loyal customer base.“We are currently looking at franchisees in Hyderabad, Pune, Gurgaon and Noida to expand and start our operations,” concludes Ankit.
