PhonePe and RuPay Enable Easier Subscription Payments with UPI AutoPay

- PhonePe PG partners with RuPay and JioHotstar to simplify recurring payments through UPI AutoPay on credit cards.
- Customers can now manage subscriptions without worrying about failed transactions due to low bank balance.
- Businesses benefit from reduced payment failures and improved user experience.
PhonePe Payment Gateway (PhonePe PG) has joined hands with RuPay and JioHotstar to launch a more convenient way to handle subscription payments using UPI AutoPay. Announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, the partnership introduces a smooth system for managing recurring payments via RuPay credit cards.
Previously, UPI AutoPay worked only through direct bank debits, which could fail if users had low account balances. This new feature changes that by allowing users to link credit cards, offering more flexibility and reducing the risk of interrupted services.
The feature is especially useful for services like JioHotstar, where seamless content access is key. Users only need to set up AutoPay once and can cancel anytime. For merchants, the benefit is clear, fewer failed payments, fewer customer drop offs, and a more reliable subscription process.
PhonePe’s new Subscription IQ platform also supports multiple recurring billing options, including UPI AutoPay, eNACH, and card based billing all in one place. This helps merchants manage various payment types through a single interface.

Ankit Gaur, Head of Payment Gateway at PhonePe, said the goal is to deliver simple, scalable, and user friendly solutions for both consumers and merchants.
JioHotstar added that the feature ensures uninterrupted access for its subscribers and simplifies payment experiences.
The service will soon be expanded to more platforms, enhancing recurring payments across industries.
