
Coal India Signs MoU with IRCON to Upgrade Rail Logistics

- IRCON International and Coal India signed a non-binding MoU on 8 October 2025 in Kolkata to develop rail infrastructure for Coal India and its subsidiaries.
- IRCON’s Q1 FY26 net profit fell 26.75% to Rs 164.10 crore, while Coal India’s net profit dropped 20% to Rs 8,734 crore.
- Following the announcement, IRCON shares slipped 1.06% to Rs 177.15, and Coal India shares rose 0.22% to Rs 383.05 on the BSE.
IRCON International has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coal India to develop rail infrastructure for the state-owned miner and its subsidiaries. The agreement was executed on 8 October 2025 in Kolkata, and the announcement was made after market hours on the same day.
IRCON International, a public sector construction company, is known for its expertise in railway projects and has diversified into roads, buildings, airport construction, electrical substations, commercial complexes, and metro rail works. The company handles projects both on a turnkey basis and through other contracts.
In Q1 FY26, IRCON reported a 26.75% decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 164.10 crore, down from Rs 224.03 crore in the same quarter last year. Its revenue from operations also fell 21.89% to Rs 1,786.28 crore compared to Rs 2,287.13 crore in Q1 FY25.
Coal India, India’s largest coal producer, is engaged in the mining and sale of coal. The Government of India holds a 63.13% stake in the company as of 30 June 2025. Coal India reported a 20% decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 8,734 crore and a 4% drop in net sales to Rs 31,880 crore in Q1 FY26 compared to Q1 FY25.

Following the announcement, IRCON’s shares slipped 1.06% to Rs 177.15, while Coal India’s shares rose slightly by 0.22% to Rs 383.05 on the BSE.
The MoU between IRCON International and Coal India is expected to strengthen rail infrastructure, improve coal logistics, and support India’s broader energy and transportation goals.
