Starlink to Launch Internet Services in India, Starting with Maharashtra
- Maharashtra to become the first Indian state to roll out Starlink internet.
- Partnership to boost satellite-based digital infrastructure.
- Launch follows Starlink’s collaborations with Jio and Airtel.
Elon Musk’s Starlink is set to begin operations in India, with Maharashtra becoming the first state to launch its satellite-based high-speed internet service. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who said the collaboration will position Maharashtra as a national leader in satellite-enabled digital connectivity.
Starlink, a division of SpaceX, provides broadband internet through a network of low-Earth orbit satellites designed to reach remote and underserved regions. Its arrival in India marks a major step toward expanding digital access in rural and isolated communities.
Fadnavis said the initiative will “ensure the state leads India in satellite-enabled digital infrastructure”, highlighting the government’s vision to connect every corner of Maharashtra with reliable internet access.
Earlier this year, Jio Platforms and Bharti Airtel signed agreements with SpaceX to integrate Starlink’s internet services into their networks, signaling a strong push for satellite broadband adoption in India.

Global tech firms have recently intensified their investments in India. In October, Google announced a $15 billion plan to build a data center and AI hub in the country, while OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity also revealed expansion plans and partnerships with Indian firms.
