Defence Ministry and QCI Join Hands to Improve Services for Veterans

- Defence Ministry signs MoU with QCI to enhance pension, healthcare, and welfare services for ex-servicemen.
- Over 63 lakh veterans and their families to benefit from improved digital and policy-driven systems.
- Focus on healthcare, re-employment, and strengthening institutional support frameworks.
In a significant step to uplift the lives of ex-servicemen and their families, the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) under the Ministry of Defence has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Quality Council of India (QCI). The signed agreement aims to enhance the delivery of essential services like pension, healthcare, resettlement, and welfare for over 63 lakh veterans and their dependents.
As part of the agreement, QCI will assist DESW through digital evaluations, impact studies, and evidence based policy suggestions. These efforts are expected to improve the efficiency and quality of services delivered to ex-servicemen. DESW will, in turn, provide access to relevant data and help coordinate with State Governments, Zila Sainik Boards, Armed Forces Headquarters, and approved hospitals.
The partnership is designed to not only improve healthcare systems but also create more re-employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for veterans. It will also work towards strengthening the institutional structure of State and District Sainik Boards to ensure better ground level implementation of welfare schemes.
The MoU was formally signed by PP Sharma, Joint Secretary and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at DESW, and Chakravarthy Kannan, Secretary General of QCI, in the presence of senior officials from various organisations including the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), Kendriya Sainik Board, and the Armed Forces.
