Why is Innovation required in this space?
We are living through a time of great uncertainty and change. Corporate Finance has never been under this level of scrutiny & stress before. While most of it is attributed to the crisis we are in, we tend to miss a critical underlying shift. If we look at successful enterprises, growth of a company is almost always equated to its Financial Performance (apart from Market Share). Office of Finance could be the reason for an enterprise to survive & thrive or perish & sink. With the amount of innovation happening in all the industries, the role of a CFO is not limited to overall Financial Operations & Governance alone, but to be an effective partner in Business Growth. The ambit of the CFO has significantly changed in the recent times ­ from Book Keeper to Change Agent.

Traditional CFO office solutions typically catered to Operational & Governance requirements and to some ex-tent of Planning & Growth. But to cater to all three, you need a scalable business friendly platform that can cut across all these areas ­ which is where QuarkCube comes in. Why did you choose the Finance Office? Will your Plat-form also work for other use cases?
Our platform's foundation is an innovative, scalable Multi-Dimensional Analytical engine along with Analytics and an Application Build layer. While the platform can be used much beyond Office of the Finance, there are two main reasons why we started off with the Finance Office. First our mission is to help Business Leaders make bold decisions faster and impactful. In that pursuit, more information a CFO can provide the leaders, more effective the company becomes. Finance has a critical role to play in every major business decision. Second, this space has not seen much innovation over the last two decades. There are quite a few products in this space but not one platform that caters to all the needs of today's CFO. Our vision is to bridge that gap.

What does your platform offer? What do your customers get as part of the platform?
From technology standpoint, our plat-form offers three main components: multi-dimensional business modeling engine;
Analytics layer with Au-to-NLP, reporting, dashboarding & extensible AI; and Application build layer for interactivity and distribution.

The product is completely built on cloud and has three tiers of licensing. Standard, Professional & Enterprise. When customers buy our product, they get all the three above. So, they can get into our platform and start building Business Models that solves a specific problem (or multiple problems) ­ for example, one of our customers use the modeling platform to build weekly liquidity risk or cash flow models. They are also looking at extending this to build Operational Plans for them.

In addition to the platform above, we also offer packaged solutions ­ like M&A Analytics, Financial Consolidation, Planning & Strategy etc. So, when customers buy our packaged solutions, they also get the base Plat-form capability along with specific additional solutions. As it is cloud based, it is very easy for customers to keep adding more solutions as and when they need.

What is the M&A component of the platform?
If you look at the industry today, inorganic growth through a merger or an acquisition, is becoming more the norm due to the way industries are evolving. Traditionally Enterprises have always been very wary of moving away from well-set business models or being acquisitive. The cliched term `Change is the only Constant' is becoming the norm for enterprises. Also, we are also in an era where large companies are also becoming VC fund houses. But when you look at it, doing a due diligence for a merger or an acquisition or a funding requires significant analytic KPIs. M&A or funding decisions have a deeper impact on the Organization ­ a wrong decision can cause significant challenges long term. To do M&A, the amount of analysis one has to do on a target company is substantial ­ right from Financial Metrics analysis, Operational Metric analysis along with other due diligence items. Also, it is very important that it is well governed. And there is not one platform today in the industry that caters to this need directly.

He was part of Oracle and Cognizant prior to starting up a pure Analytics and EPM services firm, Rittman Mead India before being acquired by Huron. Venkat also ran Huron operations as Country Head for over five years
