How Cloud Communication is Speeding up Digital India vision?
Imagine being asked to submit an e-identity card by the end of the day. You might have to search for from your local drives or computers and submit the same. But, are n’t we living in the world of a digital revolution? To digitize the nation citizen’s entity, government has come up with the digital locker concept that allows you to connect your citizen entities with Aadhaar card and save on a cloud platform. Through this authentication model, there’ll no longer be the rummage to run behind local drives or physical documents. The government of India has already taken the concept of “Cloud” seriously and implemented the vision of ‘Digital India’ based on the cloud model. Digital India was approved in August 2014 and will be implemented in multiple phases till 2018. Digital India envisions creating high speed digital highways, new age banking systems, transparent system with respect to e-governance, digital signatures, digital friendly entrepreneurship and many more. This mission is being conceptualized and implemented using technologies based on mobility, analytics, Internet of things and most importantly, Cloud technologies. The crux of all these projects drill down to breaking down huge volumes of data, and making them readily available to public through digital cloud services.Cloud has played a crucial role in ideating, planning and implementing the Digital India mission. The following are few use cases and functional deployments aided on the Cloud concept:
● Software level collaboration: Digital India aims to create software applications that can be accessed by general public on real time basis. Nearly 1700 government bodies are collaborating to create e-applications. To create user friendly softwares with large scale operability, including multiple departments is possible only through Cloud technology.
● Identity Access: Through the Digital Locker system, students will be able to upload their degree certificates. Employees will be able to provide their employment documents, public
will be able to upload to their identity proofs. All these can be accessed through an e-portal that runs on a cloud model.
● Transparent End-to-End transactions: By linking the unique identities, financial inclusion for transparent transactions in banking & insurance domains, and universal connectivity of a user profile is accessed by the government. Multiple reforms like tax invoices, medical histories and sudden emergencies can all be tracked through e-applications that run on Cloud Technology
● Information Access: Issues in information access, exchange & servicing can also be addressed through seamless access on cloud platforms. This includes minor changes like updating of aadhar card details to major transactions like creating a new connecting highway between two cities.
● Large Scale Operability: Scaling up is a major infrastructure requirement for Digital India. Through a non cloud based IT model, rapid scaling is an unfeasible and impractical solution. Cloud Technologies are the best fit for load balancing and scaling for such large scale applications.
● Drift in the corporate technologies: 21st century has acknowledged a major drift in government legacy applications and enterprise databases relying on cloud systems, for greater flexibility and easier maintenance. This has led to adopting a futuristic approach for Digital India Mission that’s made effortless through Cloud Technologies.
● Change in Government strategy: Not just enterprises, our Indian Government has also witnessed a change in strategy of shifting from a G2G to G2C governance model. This has been unanimously made possible through cloud technology adoption.
● Higher Data Control: For regulatory authorities and banking institutions that require high degree of data control and confidentiality, flexible systems are necessary. This has been addressed only through cloud technologies that offer end-to-end security through strong encryption models.

Individuals have to log in through their mobile number to save and access their documents. On premise models or IT based investment proved expensive, rigid and provided minimum flexibility to scale. The drift to cloud has landed the government in over 90 percent cut in the capital investment. This nationwide cloud initiative will create trustworthy governance and a transparent system to both the public and the government.
