Shridhara Shetty , FounderDespite the omnipresence of nature in our daily lives, its value often goes unacknowledged. However, today, green environments and sustainability are being increasingly emphasized, and so is landscaping. Landscaping applications not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of residential, commercial, and public areas, but also provide privacy and tranquility, and contribute to environmental preservation. Engaging in landscaping activities presents an opportunity to reciprocate the benefits to the environment. According to Future Market Insights, the landscaping services market is estimated to reach $573.67 billion by 2033 rising from $314.35 billion in 2023, registering a CAGR of 6.2 percent.

Contributing to this market is the Bangalore-based Green Space, a landscape execution and maintenance contractor firm. Founded by Shridhara Shetty (Proprietor & Botanist, Green Space), the firm inherently recognizes the importance of landscaping and is effectively contributing to providing services for various requirements such as effective landscape planning, structural elements for the garden, selecting plants for the garden, planning for beauty and function, effective maintenance, garden remodeling, and more. Additionally, it provides manpower, machinery, and technical support for various tasks, including irrigation and atomization of irrigation. Shridhara has previous experience of working on a prestigious project in the Ebene Cybercity of the Republic of Mauritius. Additionally, he was trained by Late Dr. Padmashri Manmohan Attavar, the Managing Director of Indo-American hybrid seeds, and worked with him for nine years before starting his venture in this field.

The firm is currently positioned as a provider of softscape services for landscape execution and maintenance. It is supported by a team of technically qualified individuals
with extensive experience in the field. Mr. Sharath, a senior project manager and civil engineer, meticulously follows a step-by-step process for each project, starting with planning, execution by laborers, and personal review to ensure alignment with the drawings. This approach has enabled Green Space to successfully complete projects for over 20 years without losing a single client. Over the years, Green Space has successfully undertaken projects such as Azim Premji University, BLD Education Trust, Greenwood High Trust, Sattva Global City, each covering 100-150 acres.

In urban areas, sourcing highquality raw materials like red soil and cow dung is challenging. Despite higher costs, Green Space has found sources on the outskirts to maintain quality. It prioritizes organic manure over chemical fertilizers but faces challenges in procurement and timely delivery. However, it is addressing these issues while also working on improving timely purchases, which is a major concern. Shridhara Shetty, Founder, Green Space emphasizes, “Customer satisfaction is the core of Green Space’s services, hence the firm specifically focuses on customer satisfaction by guiding customers through plant selection, offering nursery tours, and providing complimentary replacements for any unsatisfactory plants”.

Green Space focuses on integrating sustainability and eco-friendly practices into landscaping projects. A recent project undertaken at Azim Premji University exemplifies this commitment by emphasizing the use of eco-friendly materials, particularly jute, and addressing soil erosion. The firm’s dedication to environmental sustainability extends to the exclusion of invasive plant species such as Wedelia and Lantana from the landscape. All materials utilized, including fabrics, manures, and sprays, are exclusively 100 percent organic. Furthermore, the firm rigorously adheres to the use of organic sprays, completely eschewing chemical pesticides.

To remain abreast of the latest industry technologies and market trends, Green Space diligently monitors news channels, Pinterest, and various magazines. The firm actively engages with both emerging and seasoned architects to exchange new concepts and ideas. Furthermore, Green Space maintains ongoing communication with architects, service providers, and media channels.

Growth & Pathway Ahead

The firm has experienced profound growth since its inception. Green Space initially comprised three individuals but has since expanded to a team of approximately 120 members. Commencing with a modest project valued at Rs.12,000, it has now progressed to undertaking projects exceeding one crore rupees. Notably, it has secured an eight crore rupees project from Azim Premji University. Presently, it is engaged in substantial undertakings for Brigade Enterprises and Sattva developers, indicative of its commendable growth trajectory.

Looking forward, it has upcoming villa and resort projects, as well as a hotel project in participation with the Sattva Group. Preparatory work for these ventures has already commenced, and the firm anticipates these endeavors to be both challenging and lucrative. Hence, it is committed to executing these projects with excellence.
