According to World Population Review’s latest numbers, India’s population stood at 141.7 crore by the end of 2022 and is expected to surpass China as the most populous country this year. Also, a recent report by the UN states that the Indian urban population which stood at 483 million in 2020 is expected to hit the 675 million mark by 2035. Given the massive population India is home to and the rapid urbanism happening in the country, having the necessary infrastructure is very much essential for the economic development of the country. As per estimates from the World Bank, India will have to invest at least an average of $50 billion/year for the next 15 years to successfully meet the growing urbanization needs.
