Anamika Sahu, Managing EditorWith the ever increasing cost of infrastructures, it has become nearly impossible for startups and freelancers to own an office space. And having one in the prime location of the city is synonyms to day dreaming. However, with the increasing trend of co-working spaces, startups and freelancers now truly own their own office space at a much considerable price tags. With time, the office spaces have developed
to be more than a common work station.

Loaded with modern amenities like personalized work space, un-interrupted internet connectivity, power backup, environment friendly ambiance, free snacks and coffee on-the-house concepts, the co-working space has become the breeding grounds for investments, community events, awareness, networking and co-existence in the ecosystem. Seeing the considerable benefit, even corporates are booking full-time seats for their small teams in different cities rather than owning an office space.

Since mid-2014, shared office providers have leased more than 3.7 million square feet in leases of 20,000 square feet and larger. And the business seems to be just growing with much impetus. According to a study conducted by renowned real estate consultancy JLL, the co-working industry in India is expected to receive $400 million in investments by 2018, and will grow by 40-50 percent in the fiscal year 2017. But there is much to see if these numbers will be wedged by the recent GST plans of the Indian government and how the industry will react to it.
